Vaya Health

Vaya Health is a public managed care organisation based in Sylva, North Carolina, operating across western North Carolina and the wider state. Founded in 1972 and active for more than five decades, it integrates physical and behavioural health services and manages Medicaid, federal, state and local funding to connect people to healthcare services and supports.

The organisation provides whole-person managed care for individuals with mental health needs, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries. Its work spans managed care, behavioural health care, integrated physical and behavioural health, and substance use disorder treatment. It is funded through Medicaid and other federal, state and local sources.

Vaya Health operates a network of more than 23,000 provider offices and some 60,000 clinicians. It describes its approach as community-based and collaborative, working closely with that provider network, and states a focus on delivering the right care, in the right amount, at the right time, with particular attention to healthcare access gaps in underserved communities.
