Sunrun

Sunrun installs and maintains residential solar and battery storage systems in the United States under a little-to-no-money-down model, serving nearly 800,000 customers.

Sunrun is a residential solar and battery storage company founded in 2007 and operating across the United States. It installs home solar systems with little to no money down, so that homeowners pay only for the clean energy their systems produce. The company has served nearly 800,000 customers and deployed 5.7 gigawatts of clean energy capacity. In 2020 it acquired Vivint Solar for $3.2 billion.

Technical work spans residential solar energy systems, battery energy storage, distributed energy resources, and grid support and peak demand management. Battery storage paired with solar allows homes to act as distributed power plants, providing backup power during outages and supporting the grid during periods of peak demand.

Sunrun runs a vertically integrated model, controlling the customer experience from consultation through installation and long-term maintenance. The company describes its mission as making clean energy accessible to everyday families and its vision as a decentralised energy future in which homes function as power plants.
