Shield
Shield provides an AI-powered digital communications compliance platform for financial institutions, monitoring email, chat, voice and trade data to detect market abuse, misconduct and information leaks.
Shield builds a digital communications compliance platform for financial services. Its software captures electronic communications across email, chat, voice and trade data, then correlates and enriches that data so that compliance teams can detect market abuse, personal misconduct and information leaks. The system draws on artificial intelligence, natural language processing and advanced analytics, and is intended as a single end-to-end alternative to the fragmented legacy tools that many regulated institutions still rely on.
The company employs more than 180 people and operates across four continents. It was founded by a team of compliance experts, data scientists and engineers who had spent more than a decade working with financial services technology and grew frustrated with existing systems that produced high volumes of false positives and required institutions to stitch several platforms together. Shield's stated aim is to reduce those false positives and to give compliance teams what it calls the ability to "see more, know more, and solve more".
Shield serves banks, capital-markets firms and other regulated institutions; it counts some of the world's largest financial institutions among its customers. The work spans several technical domains - data capture and ingestion, data correlation and context enrichment, multi-channel communications monitoring and RegTech generally - and the company places particular emphasis on the reliability and resilience of its platform.
