Sardine

Sardine is a fraud and compliance platform using device intelligence, behavior biometrics and AI to detect payment and identity fraud in real time.

Sardine, founded in 2020, builds a behavior-infused fraud and compliance platform that combines device intelligence, behavior biometrics and machine learning to detect identity fraud, payment fraud, account takeovers and social engineering scams in real time. The company was started by Soups Ranjan, a data scientist with experience fighting fraud at Coinbase and Revolut. It is backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Visa and Google Ventures, and has raised $145 million to date.

The company's unified platform is used by more than 300 banks, retailers and fintechs across over 70 countries. It secures more than $150 billion in payments and has stopped over $21 billion in fraud attempts. Customers come from banking, fintech, retail, financial services, payments and compliance.

Technical work spans machine learning, fraud detection, behavior biometrics, device intelligence, AI risk modelling, real-time risk detection and data science. The company states that it continues to develop its AI risk platform and describes its mission as preventing fraud losses that could have been avoided with the right data.
