SANS Institute

SANS Institute, founded in 1989, provides cybersecurity training, certifications and research, including 85+ courses, 1,700+ hands-on labs and 150+ open-source security tools built by practitioner faculty.

SANS Institute is a cybersecurity training, certification and research organisation founded in 1989 as a cooperative for information security thought leadership. It describes itself as the world's largest and most trusted source for cybersecurity training, certifications and research, with a global reach across the sector. Its work spans cybersecurity, information security, cyber defense, security research and open-source security tooling.

The institute offers more than 85 courses, delivered in classrooms and online, and over 1,700 accompanying hands-on lab exercises designed to build practical skills rather than theory alone. Alongside training and professional certifications, SANS produces information security research, more than 150 open-source security tools created collectively by faculty members, and over 40 information security books authored by faculty.

All courses are written and taught by active cybersecurity practitioners with frontline experience in cyber defense, a model the institute says fosters durable working relationships between instructors and students and a global network of professionals who continue to learn from one another after training ends. The stated aim of the curriculum is immediately applicable skill: capabilities that can be put to use on returning to work. Core values are listed as integrity, trust, honesty and flexibility, alongside a community-driven approach to the profession.
