RoboteX is a Silicon Valley-based technology company that develops personal safety robots for first responders and law enforcement. Its Avatar line is built to enter areas that are unsafe for human personnel, supplying remote video, two-way audio and all-terrain mobility. The stated aim is for these robots to become standard equipment for first responders worldwide.
The product range includes Avatar III, a personal safety robot designed specifically for law enforcement, and Avatar Micro, a compact model with the same core capabilities of video, two-way audio and all-terrain operation. Technical work spans robotics, unmanned ground vehicles, telepresence and video technology.
The company was founded by alumni of PayPal and YouTube and develops its technology commercially rather than through government research grants, with an emphasis on affordable, high-quality and easy-to-use design. It has raised $5 million in funding, a round joined by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel.
