R3 Lithium

R3 Lithium recovers and refines battery-grade lithium carbonate from recycled battery content at its Covington, Georgia plant, supplying domestic battery-material supply chains.

R3 Lithium recovers, refines and returns lithium carbonate to domestic battery-material supply chains, treating batteries already in circulation as a source of critical minerals rather than relying on primary mining or non-domestic refining. The company operates a vertically integrated process: manufacturing scrap and end-of-life batteries are shredded and mechanically processed into black mass, from which lithium is selectively extracted and refined on-site. Its output is battery-grade and technical-grade lithium carbonate produced from 100% recycled battery content.

Production is centred on a 154,000-square-foot plant in Covington, Georgia, where commercial-scale lithium carbonate production from 100% recycled battery content was first demonstrated in 2025. The facility can process up to 30,000 metric tons of battery material through its shredding lines and houses a 2,500-metric-ton lithium carbonate line, with space reserved for a second line of equal capacity.

The company's technical work spans battery recycling, black mass processing, hydrometallurgical lithium extraction and lithium carbonate refining. Its materials serve electric vehicles, energy storage systems, defense, consumer electronics, data centres and battery manufacturing. R3 Lithium is focused on strengthening domestic supply-chain security and reducing dependence on imported lithium and overseas refining, and plans modular facility expansion across North America and Europe.
