Polarsteps

Polarsteps is a travel technology company based in Amsterdam. Founded in 2015, it builds an all-in-one travel app that lets users plan, track and relive their trips from a single platform. The company was started by Dutch adventurer Niek and, according to its own account, was born on a catamaran halfway across the Atlantic.

The Polarsteps Travel App combines itinerary planning, automatic GPS route tracking, real-time location and diary sharing, Trip Reels and premium printed Travel Books. Its planning feature uses AI to help shape itineraries, while GPS tracking records a traveller's route automatically and lets friends and family follow along. The app has more than 20 million users across over 180 countries.

The company employs over 90 people from more than 25 nationalities, working from a downtown Amsterdam office. Technical work spans mobile app development, AI-powered itinerary planning, GPS route tracking, location sharing and the underlying travel technology. Polarsteps describes its mission as leading a global movement towards more adventurous travel, and its team as explorers at heart.
