Plaid

Plaid builds APIs and data network infrastructure connecting consumers' bank accounts to fintech apps, covering 12,000+ institutions and powering 7,000+ companies.

Plaid builds the APIs and data network infrastructure that connects consumers' financial accounts to fintech apps and services. Founded in 2013, the company handles secure connections to banks and normalizes financial data at scale, sparing individual firms the work of integrating with each institution separately. Its connectivity API covers more than 12,000 financial institutions, and its financial data network powers over 7,000 fintech companies across North America and Europe. Developer tools are designed to let companies build financial products in weeks rather than months.

The work spans a set of technical domains: APIs, financial data networks, bank connectivity, data normalization, developer tools, data security and scalable infrastructure. The underlying problem is unglamorous but substantial - bank data arrives in inconsistent formats, and the network must reconcile it reliably for millions of people who use it daily. Industries served include fintech, financial services, banking, consumer finance, investing and payments.

Plaid employs more than 900 people across six offices worldwide. The company describes its mission in terms of making financial services accessible to everyone and giving people more control over their financial lives, a thread that runs through the products and the team's stated priorities.
