Maersk Container Industry (MCI) designs and manufactures refrigerated containers and refrigeration machines for the intermodal shipping industry. Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Tinglev, Denmark, the company operates globally, serving shipping lines and logistics firms that transport perishable goods through cold-chain networks. Its work spans refrigeration technology, container manufacturing, atmosphere control, connectivity, surface treatments and energy-efficiency engineering.

The company's flagship product, Star Cool, is a refrigeration unit first developed in 1998 and refined over more than 20 years of continuous innovation. Star Cool 1.1, the latest iteration, cuts energy consumption by 8% and represents a step toward net-zero operations. The wider product range includes Star Cool CA and Star Cool CA+ atmosphere control systems, complete reefers, cooling machines, specialised surface treatments and the Sekstant connectivity brand.

Technical work at MCI covers a broad field, from refrigeration and atmosphere control systems to IoT-based connectivity and energy-efficiency engineering. The company maintains a global service network of more than 400 Star Cool Service Providers. Sustainability features in its engineering priorities, notably through a triple-refrigerant system and an emphasis on energy efficiency intended to support sustainable global cold chains.
