Kardium

Kardium is a Burnaby-based medical technology company developing the Globe Pulsed Field System, a catheter-based device for mapping and treating atrial fibrillation.

Kardium is a privately held medical technology company founded in 2007 and headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. It develops the Globe Pulsed Field System, a device for the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation (AFib). The company employs over 500 people and works across pulsed field ablation, cardiac electrophysiology, catheter design and engineering, high-density cardiac mapping and 3D mapping.

The Globe Pulsed Field System uses a single spherical catheter with 122 individually selectable electrodes, allowing high-density mapping and precise ablation through one device. It combines rapid pulmonary vein isolation, continuous high-definition 3D mapping and patient-specific therapy delivery. Reported clinical results include a 100% acute procedural success rate, an average vein isolation time of 25 minutes and zero device-related primary safety events in clinical trials.

The system has received FDA approval, a CE Mark and Health Canada approval, and commercial procedures are underway in the United States, Europe and Canada. Kardium describes itself as a rapidly expanding organisation and is advancing clinical evidence through studies including GLOBAL-AF and PULSAR.
