Joby Aviation

Joby Aviation builds all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi aircraft and an urban air taxi service offering quiet, emissions-free flights of up to 100 miles at 200 mph.

Joby Aviation, founded in 2009 and originating in Santa Cruz, California, is developing an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi service intended to transform urban transportation. The company designs aircraft that are quiet and emissions-free, aimed at bypassing ground traffic congestion in cities. More than a decade of design, testing and refinement of its technology has produced a proprietary aircraft and the service to operate it.

The Joby eVTOL air taxi aircraft offers up to 100 miles of range and a top speed of 200 mph. Paired with an all-electric air taxi service, the aircraft is intended to turn a two-hour gridlocked commute into a 15-minute flight. Technical work spans eVTOL aircraft design, electric aviation, vertical takeoff and landing technology, battery-electric propulsion, and the development of an urban air mobility ecosystem.

The company employs more than 2,500 people across 15 or more locations worldwide. Its stated vision is to save a billion people an hour a day, reclaiming time for family, work and life moments, alongside a commitment to zero-emission flight and reducing aviation's environmental footprint. Strategic partnerships include Toyota, Delta Air Lines and Uber.
