Fly.io

Fly.io is a public-cloud platform running applications and AI workloads on its own hardware in more than 18 regions, offering hardware-isolated VMs, managed Postgres and AI agent infrastructure.

Fly.io is a public-cloud platform that runs applications and AI workloads on its own hardware across more than 18 global regions. Its developer-focused cloud primitives include Fly Machines, hardware-isolated compute instances, Managed Postgres, private networking between apps and services, autoscaling, zero-downtime deployments and monitoring. Sprites, a product for running AI agents and untrusted code, extends the platform to agent workloads, alongside agent-oriented CLIs and MCP servers.

The company operates as a fully distributed, remote-first team organised into small, two-to-four-person engineering groups, each with independent ownership of a product area. There is no traditional product-management structure; teams build cloud primitives directly and collaborate across disciplines. Documentation is central to how decisions, technical work and customer problems are shared, supported by a heavy writing culture and asynchronous communication. Support is engineering-led, with support engineers writing code and helping customers diagnose networking, deployment and infrastructure issues.

Technical work spans cloud infrastructure, edge computing, hardware-isolated virtual machines, private networking, managed databases, autoscaling, monitoring and observability, AI agent infrastructure and tooling, memory-safe systems and untrusted code execution. The engineering approach favours memory-safe systems and the pragmatic deployment of applications and AI workloads close to users.
