Founded in 1976 in Lawrence, Pennsylvania, by Eugene Yost and Dick Raub, the company began as a small distribution operation with a catalogue of nine products across six pages. Its founders identified a market gap for reliable networking and communications products that businesses could access directly, and set out to be a trusted IT solutions partner. That vision has held for nearly five decades.

Today Black Box is a publicly traded company headquartered in Plano, Texas, with operations across the globe. Its offering spans three lines: comprehensive network and system integration services for enterprise digital infrastructure; managed services covering the build, management and optimisation of that infrastructure; and networking and communications technology products, the original basis of the 1976 catalogue.
