Avenues The World School is a private school operator founded in 2012 to provide toddler-through-12th-grade education built on a research-backed, globally focused curriculum. The school's stated aim is to prepare students for lives of global leadership and impact, with an emphasis on global connectivity, interdisciplinary learning and real-world application. It was founded by Benno C. Schmidt Jr., former president of Yale University; Chris Whittle, an education entrepreneur; and Alan Greenberg, former publisher of Esquire magazine.
The company operates under a one-school, multi-campus model, with campuses in New York and São Paulo. Avenues New York, the first campus, opened in September 2012 in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, occupying the historic R.C. Williams Warehouse building designed by Cass Gilbert in 1928 following a $60 million renovation. Avenues São Paulo, located in São Paulo, Brazil, is the second campus. Both serve students from toddler through 12th grade. In October 2023 the school was acquired by Nord Anglia Education.
Industry verticals include education, private K-12 education and international schools. The school's work spans curriculum development and delivery across all grade levels, and it was featured in the 2015 documentary film Class Divide, which examined gentrification in New York City.
