Assistant Project Manager
Location: Alsip, IL
Pay Range: $55,000 – $80,000 (based on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role:
Our client, a well-established contractor in the utility and civil construction space, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support their growing team. This is a newly created role designed to assist Project Managers in all phases of construction project execution—from preconstruction through closeout. Ideal for someone early in their construction management career, this role offers a strong foundation in both office coordination and occasional field support.
Responsibilities:

Assist Project Managers in planning, estimating, scheduling, and project coordination

Support preconstruction activities including takeoffs, jobsite visits, and proposal preparation

Manage project documentation including submittals, drawings, specifications, and permits

Track material lead times and procurement status

Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, design consultants, utility companies, and local municipalities

Attend jobsite and coordination meetings; document action items and site changes

Help manage submittals, POs, change orders, and other project control documents using project management software

Assist with project closeout documentation and city approvals

Occasionally support field operations (approx. 20% of time), helping superintendents with equipment, logistics, and subcontractor communication
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred

0–3 years of experience in construction or utility/civil infrastructure projects

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)

Strong organizational and communication skills

Familiarity with submittals, change orders, and document control processes

Some field experience or exposure is a plus

Willingness to be onsite occasionally as needed
