All veterinary services fall under the jurisdiction of the Veterinary Division. It has a very specific mission that focuses on providing animal disease programs designed to control, diagnose and eradicate diseases in livestock and poultry. Most of these animal disease control programs are cooperative efforts with the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services and animal industry groups. The Veterinary Division also administers the North Carolina Animal Welfare Act.

 The Veterinary Division is currently comprised of three sections:
- Animal Health Programs (AHP) Â Â
- Poultry  Â
- Livestock  Â
- Diagnostic Laboratories Â
- Animal Welfare Programs
The person in this position is a project manager responsible for providing oversight of Livestock Animal Health programs such as the Animal Disease Traceability (ADT) Program, the Farmed Cervid Program and the Feral Swine Program. This position will be responsible for coordinating Livestock Programs in North Carolina as it relates to the purpose and scope of these federal and state programs. The individual will understand and improve the accuracy and efficiency of the collection and processing of electronic identification information of relevant livestock movements, work with Farmed Cervid producers and stakeholders, and facilitate our Feral Swine Program implementation in North Carolina.Â
The position will participate in management of the cooperative agreements and grants with USDA APHIS VS and USDA NRCS, be responsible for managing financial resources provided through appropriate funds, cooperative agreements and grants, reporting on program accomplishments and ensuring grant and cooperative agreement deliverables are met. The Livestock Program Manager is responsible for compliance with rules and regulations relative to the programs for which they have oversight. This position also maintains knowledge of federal, state and commercial information management technologies and services required for effective day-to-day operations and to plan for future needs. Outreach and education to markets, producers and industry stakeholders, as well as implementation of technology are also responsibilities. The person in this position will establish, develop, and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with state and federal animal health officials, data management experts, subject matter experts, livestock producers, livestock markets, industry stakeholders and others. This individual will plan, assign, and supervise the work of one Administrative Specialist I direct report. Additional duties as assigned. Â Â

- Familiarity with livestock production practices, producers and/or livestock market channels and livestock identification methods, such as ear and back tags.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums and produce documentation of project resultsÂ
- Ability to advise and assist team members in project activities
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing, applying, and interpreting policies and proceduresÂ
- Experience working as a wildlife or conservation biologist
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
