Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation.  The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing practice.  We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in developing both field and analytical skills, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. 

Job Responsibilities: 

• Performs engineering calculations, analyses, and data gathering for moderately complex projects under the guidance of senior level staff.
• Prepares drawings, figures, plans, specifications, and technical reports for project deliverables.
• Collects, documents, and evaluates field, laboratory, and project data.
• Supports and/or conducts field investigations, inspections, testing, construction observation, and other project-related activities. 

Required Skills/Experience: 

• 0-3 years of relevant professional experience  
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills  
• Positive attitude  
• Ability to multi-task  
• Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement  
• Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks away from the office  
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside 

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

• Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.) 
• EIT certification 

Other Requirements: 

• Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job 
• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check 
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening 

The compensation range for this position is between $75,000 to $88,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
