Communities In Schools of Nevada

Communities In Schools of Nevada is a nonprofit founded in 2004 that places full-time, trained site coordinators inside high-needs schools. The organisation works to surround students with a community of support, helping them stay in school and achieve in life. Its site coordinator model serves nearly 100,000 students across Nevada through four regional affiliates.

Under the CIS Site Coordinator Model, coordinators assess student needs and deliver resources that remove barriers to success, working alongside community partners and school staff. Support is delivered through three main strands: material and basic needs assistance, including material items and basic life skills support; academic support for students in high-poverty schools; and social-emotional support, which provides a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult and a safe place to learn and grow.

The organisation operates in both rural and urban school districts across Nevada, including Las Vegas, Reno, Elko and Winnemucca. Work spans the K-12 education, student support services, youth development, and poverty and basic-needs fields. Its stated focus is equity of opportunity for children, on the belief that every child has unlimited potential but may lack equal opportunities, with an emphasis on caring adult relationships and holistic material, academic and emotional support.
