Bookstore Associate – College Textbook & Apparel Store
Location: Santa Clara University Campus Store
Compensation: $18.20/hour

Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about delivering outstanding customer service? Join our team as a Bookstore Associate at the Santa Clara University Campus Store! In this role, you’ll be the face of the store, assisting students, faculty, and visitors while contributing to the success and smooth operation of our college retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales Support
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service to all customers.
- Greet and assist shoppers with locating textbooks, apparel, and merchandise.
- Take initiative to support store operations including operating equipment and cash register while ensuring speed of service and accurate transactions.
- Answer questions about products, promotions, and store policies.
- Promote a positive and welcoming atmosphere for students, faculty, and visitors.
Store Maintenance & Operations
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized store environment for customers and staff.
- Sanitize workstations, counters, credit card machines, and frequently touched surfaces.
- Clean and maintain breakrooms and shared staff areas; empty trash and manage waste disposal.
- Support opening and closing procedures as needed.
Stocking & Organization
- Restock shelves, replenish clothing racks, and ensure shopping bags and receipt paper are available at registers.
- Organize and process returns and restock items on the sales floor.
- Straighten displays, fold apparel, and maintain a visually appealing retail space.
- Routine housekeeping including, for example, dusting, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming, and trash removal.
- Help prepare and organize customer pick-up orders.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Temporary positions require availability to work on a weekly basis for a period of time with occasional weekends, and flexibility in scheduling for opening, midday or closing shifts
- Previous customer service or retail experience preferred.
- Ability to use a POS system and handle transactions accurately.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to excellent service.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced retail environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
