Compliance Specialist

As a member of our Compliance team, you’ll help execute and enhance initiatives tied to BSA/AML, sanctions, KYC, training, process design, and regulatory reporting in close collaboration with both internal stakeholders and external financial partners. While the focus is on BSA/AML, this role requires broad compliance awareness, the ability to manage multiple workstreams, and a strong appetite for building scalable, tech-enabled solutions. The ideal candidate is a versatile compliance generalist who thrives in fast-paced FinTech environments and works seamlessly with cross-functional teams to support a best-in-class compliance framework.

Key Job Responsibilities

Assist in implementing and maintaining Paybotic Financial’s BSA/AML Compliance Program in line with FinCEN guidance and state cannabis regulations.
Review onboarding applications and documents to assess eligibility, ensure KYC/CIP is completed, and perform ODD/EDD reviews for cannabis and other high-risk clients.
Monitor daily transactions for suspicious activity; escalate alerts and help prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs).
Review and maintain investigation notes, audit trails, and case documentation in the compliance case‑management system.
Verify cannabis licenses, seed‑to‑sale data, and state compliance status during onboarding and periodic reviews.
Assist with document collection for partner‑bank audits, regulatory exams, and internal reviews; track remediation to completion.
Support vendor due‑diligence reviews and ongoing third‑party oversight.
Stay current on evolving cannabis banking laws, FinCEN guidance, and industry best practices; share insights with the team.
Contribute to compliance training content and assist in delivering sessions to new hires and business partners.
Support ad hoc compliance projects and initiatives in response to evolving regulatory or business needs.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience in compliance or related regulatory or operational teams
Strong background experience with KYC/KYB, BSA/AML, sanctions, EDD, and financial crimes compliance
Familiarity with ACH and NACHA compliance, particularly for FinTech payment flows
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to create reports, analyze data, and develop professional documentation and presentations
Ability to handle multiple and fast-changing priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills investigative and critical thinking skills
Familiarity with cannabis banking, fintech, or BaaS is a plus
CAMS certification is strongly preferred; candidates without it must be willing to obtain certification within 90 days of hire (company-sponsored, with a 12-month retention agreement)
