Job Description and Responsibilities:
The Transportation Manager reports directly to the Director of Global Logistics and is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring effective transportation policies and programs for all inbound and outbound freight for North American Operations (US, Canada, Mexico), as well as coordinating International transportation as required by the Director of Global Logistics. Position will be responsible for collaborating with all SMP facilities regarding the establishment and execution of transportation policies and programs as well as for managing negotiations, selection and ongoing oversight of providers, such as freight forwarders, brokers, carriers and 3rd party logistics providers at the direction of the Director of Global Logistics.
Specific Duties include:
- Collaboration with all SMP facilities on establishment and execution of transportation policies and programs
- Negotiation and selection of service providers, such as freight forwarders, brokers, carriers, 3rd party logistics providers as well as other providers as required to successfully manage inbound and outbound transportation
- Oversight and management of all service providers associated with SMP’s transportation programs
- Monitoring and reporting of SMP’s performance in the effective execution of transportation programs
- Other related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- 3-5 years’ experience in transportation, logistics and related fields
- Demonstrated experience with effective negotiation and selection of service providers
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external personnel, domestically and internationally
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent oral/written communications skills
- Ability to multitask; strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational skills
