Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Director of Supply Chain to be based in the United States, with key leadership responsibility for logistics, distribution, and procurement activities across the U.S. and Europe. This role will play a central part in managing material flow, supplier performance, and product availability across key regions, while ensuring operational efficiency, cost control, and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in pharma logistics, freight and 3PL management, cold chain (if applicable), direct/indirect procurement, and experience managing cross-functional teams across time zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead U.S.-based logistics and distribution operations, including domestic and international shipping, warehousing, and 3PL oversight
- Oversee European logistics coordination, working closely with local partners to ensure seamless cross-border material movement and compliance with EU GDP
- Manage end-to-end procurement processes, including sourcing strategies, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management for both direct materials (API, packaging, components) and indirect services
- Coordinate inventory movement and product availability across regions to support commercial and development programs
- Partner with Quality and Regulatory to ensure all logistics and distribution activities comply with GMP, GDP, and international trade requirements
- Monitor and improve cost-to-serve metrics, logistics performance KPIs, procurement savings, and on-time delivery
- Develop and maintain regional and global SOPs, ensuring alignment with internal standards and regulatory expectations
- Support cross-functional initiatives related to new product launches, market expansions, product transfers, and risk mitigation
- Lead or contribute to supply chain digitization and systems improvement efforts (e.g., ERP/SCM systems, visibility tools, dashboard reporting)
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across Europe and the U.S., building strong cross-regional communication and operational alignment
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical supply chain management, with a focus on logistics, distribution, and procurement
- Deep understanding of GxP-regulated supply chains, including U.S. and EU GDP, import/export requirements, and supplier qualification processes
- Proven success managing 3PLs, freight partners, and global sourcing networks
- Experience overseeing or coordinating international operations, particularly across Europe
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with a track record of delivering cost savings and operational improvements
- Proficiency in supply chain systems (ERP, TMS, WMS); SAP or Oracle experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field; MBA or Master’s degree a plus
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage remote teams and cross-functional stakeholders
