Description
An employee in this class performs general clerical and administrative activities in the County’s Board of Elections Office to assist in the timely and efficient administration of established voting responsibilities. Work requires that the employee exercise sound judgment in working with the public and providing them with the proper information. Work procedures are well established and generally are readily available. Work is performed under the supervision of the Elections Director and is evaluated through conferences, observation, and review of and work generated.
DUTIES
- Processes voter registration applications and maintains updated reports.
- Performs data entry and scans information using the State System Information Management System (SE1MS) for voter registration activities, felons, DMV, deceased, inactive voters and reports.
- Performs general office duties including answering municipal phone lines, preparing Election Day materials, instruction manuals and various reports, spreadsheets and other necessary documents.
- Assists with one stop and mail absentee applications.
- Prepares and processes weekly required verification and confirmation mailings.
- Scans and updates voter history from Election Day activity.
- Performs other related duties.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- General knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Elections Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Elections Clerk.
- Knowledge in the areas of voter registration and election administration.
- Knowledge of the terminology and various professional languages used within the department.
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Knowledge of the reports, records, files and letters which must be prepared, processed and maintained in order to meet legal requirements.
- Knowledge of the standard equipment used in public elections; is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment as necessary.
- Knowledge of proper English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and technology; has skill in the use of computers for word and data processing and records management.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry.
- Ability to offer assistance to the public and others as necessary in explaining voter registration and election procedures and requirements.
- Ability to make sound, educated decisions.
- Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
- Ability to demonstrate good organizational, technical and human relations skills.
