Data Scientist / Data Engineer – Inventory Optimization
REMOTE (Pacific Time but hours flexible on occasion)
8-month contract (available extension/conversion)
$50.00-$55.00/hour
Role Overview
We are hiring a Data Scientist/Engineer to support a major initiative in inventory optimization. The role requires strong technical expertise in Python, SQL, PySpark, and enterprise data platforms like Databricks, with a focus on delivering production-grade analytics and machine learning solutions that integrate seamlessly with business operations.
This position involves close collaboration with data scientists, engineers, and business teams to translate complex models into scalable, maintainable systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy data pipelines and models using Python, SQL, PySpark, and Databricks.
- Convert prototype models into production-ready code in collaboration with data scientists.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines; manage version control with GitHub Enterprise.
- Apply mathematical programming and machine learning methods to business use cases.
- Use Pydantic to define and enforce API and data model contracts.
- Ensure code quality, test coverage, and scalability across all deployed systems.
- Independently structure work, break down tasks, and deliver components in iterative cycles.
- Participate in sprint planning, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering data science and engineering solutions in a production environment.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and PySpark.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks or equivalent enterprise-scale cloud data platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD workflows and GitHub Enterprise.
- Skilled in using Pydantic or equivalent tools for data validation and API schema definition.
- Familiarity with machine learning and optimization techniques.
- Knowledge of libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, MLlib, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Strong independent contributor capable of working with minimal direction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in retail, inventory management, or operations research.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs in data workflows.
- Exposure to Agile delivery practices.
