Logistics Director, Washington Division

The Role
As
Logistics Director, you won’t just be running the show from an office. As a member of our Core Leadership team, you’ll be engaging with other leaders in all areas – Sales-Operations-Transportation-Finance – and ensuring that the transportation team is motivated and performing at a high level. Key Responsibilities
The
Logistics Director is responsible for directing all activities in the transportation department necessary to operate and support the division and balance Pacific Coast Fresh Company’s (PCF) customer centric approach with maximizing driver and route efficiency. This position assists in crafting the strategic vision for the transportation department and manages processes and people to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of temperature sensitive products to PCF’s customers.
Essential Functions
- P&L responsibility for the Kent Transportation Division
- Creative use of technology, process improvements, as well as developing and leveraging internal teams and departments to meet and exceed customer expectations and company goals
- Compliance with federal, state, and local laws (FSMA/FMCSA/DOT) by studying existing, new and emerging legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management
- Vendor and contract negotiations and execution of approved contracts
- Maintains delivery operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, transportation, and personnel policies and procedures.
- Defines and recommends objectives; develops specific short- and long-range plans and programs and submits the supporting budget requests
- Oversees daily execution of transportation activities
- Performs daily/weekly/monthly reporting as required to support business needed
- Maintains and enhances metrics related to on-time delivery, time to deliver, miles per gallon, driver pay incentives, etc. Measures results against specified key operating targets
- Continually improves processes, procedures and infrastructure to improve profitability
- Holds regularly scheduled weekly meeting with Transportation team members with the goal of constant improvement in safety, productivity and service to customers
- Works with and through team members to ensure transportation remains focused on safety
- Assist with training, coaching, mentoring and incenting the transportation supervisory team
- Implements changes to dynamic routing system as needed
- Supports and effectively communicates PCF’s vision, goals and strategies as appropriate to the team, mentoring employees to encourage growth within current and future roles
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with 5+ years professional experience within a successful mid-to-large size organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of FSMA/FMCSA/DOT regulations
- Familiarity and experience with modern fleet management tools in the following areas, on-board camera recording systems, driver behavior tracking tools through GPS, dynamic routing systems and onboard digital driver mobility applications
- Passion for mentoring and developing talent
- Data driven with the ability to adjust response and strategies based on performance metrics
- Able to foster collaboration between procurement, sales, operations and transportation teams
