THE WORK We are seeking an exceptional Agile Experimental and Prototyping Machinist to join our team of innovative engineers and technicians. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, fabricating, and testing mechanical devices, as well as setting up and operating precision machine tools to create original parts, tools, mechanisms, and devices for experimental purposes. This role requires a highly skilled and agile individual who can work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and experimentation.
As a key member of our Machinist team, you will:
-Plan the layout, fabrication, and testing of mechanical devices, including designing and developing prototypes, models, and test fixtures
-Set up and operate a variety of precision machine tools, including numerically controlled machines, to manufacture original parts, tools, mechanisms, and devices for experimental purposes
-Solve complex problems related to work-holding arrangements, unusual materials, machine settings, tools, product specifications, and fabrication methods for production processes
-Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions, ensuring high-quality results for research engineers in a developmental laboratory setting
-Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control procedures or other control procedures
-Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders to design, develop, and test new products, processes, and technologies
-Develop and implement innovative solutions to complex technical problems, using expertise in machining, fabrication, and testing
-Maintain a safe and organized workspace, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures
-Stay up-to-date with emerging trends, technologies, and techniques in machining, fabrication, and testing, applying this knowledge to continuously improve processes and results

Basic Qualifications:- 5+ years of experience as a machinist, with a focus on experimental and prototyping work
- Knowledge of machining principles, practices, and techniques, including CNC machining, milling, turning, grinding, and finishing
- Experience with a variety of materials, including metals, plastics, and composites
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar tools
- Problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on agility, adaptability, and continuous improvement
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Desired Skills:-Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., mechanical engineering, machining, manufacturing) preferred
- Experience working in a developmental laboratory or research environment
- Knowledge of statistical process control procedures and quality control methodologies
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices
- Experience with 3D printing, additive manufacturing, or other emerging technologies
- Certification in machining, fabrication, or a related field (e.g., CNC machining, tool fabrication

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
