Summary
The Operations Planning Assistant is responsible for planning, scheduling, and expediting to ensure timely production and shipment of customer orders. Creates and maintains production schedules which balance finished goods inventories to target levels, as well as issue production work orders to ensure inventory is available for requested customer delivery dates. Responsible for interfacing between Production and Customer Service to ensure sales order requirements are fulfilled.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Planning/Scheduling
- Create, maintain and complete work orders for all required products.
- Develop delivery commitments by coordinating scheduling activities with production team to balance production capacity, productivity, and on-time delivery metrics.
- Analyze one-time orders for material availability and provide ship dates to Customer Service in a timely matter. Re-evaluate orders as required due to customer change requests.
- Evaluate expedite requests from Customer Service and respond in a timely matter.
- Run daily "Short Stock Report" and prioritize production accordingly.
- Review "Short Pick" report and prioritize production accordingly.
- Analyze item shortages reported by Shipping and schedule work orders as needed.
- Provide accurate and timely communication of production shortages or delays which could impact customer deliveries.
- Coordinate with Returns to evaluate product returns against demand in order to facilitate proper product disposition.
- Responsible for fulfillment of requisitions and forwarding of documentation to Purchasing.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the department and alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications, Education And/Or Experience
- Associates degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or relevant field.
- Minimum 1-2 years of production planning experience using an ERP system within a manufacturing environment.
- Intermediate knowledge of MRP software; SAP, Oracle, Sage MAS, etc.
- Intermediate understanding of BOM structures, routings, and MRP tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Detail oriented with exceptional time management and multi-tasking ability.
- Must be able to perform well under pressure.
- Must be a team player with ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and follow-up on requests.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to operate a computer and calculator, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
