POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in the development and implementation of district-wide school bus schedules for transporting students to and from school in the safest, most cost effective and time efficient manner. Help prepare accurate state reports to ensure appropriate financial reimbursement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains communication and harmonious relationships with contractors, principals, and parents using diplomacy, tact, and discretion to ensure the daily transportation of students to and from school, and determine the needs of the students.
- Assists in the maintenance of bus schedules for all students, utilizing computerized transportation routing and student database system.
- Processes and responds to mail and calls pertaining to transportation.
- Possesses strong geographic knowledge of the School District and surrounding areas.
- Assists in maintaining the transportation software, overseeing student, school, and mapping information.
- Assists in developing and maintaining the monthly calendar of closings, early dismissals, and late openings for public, non-public, Charter, and specialized school programs.
- Required to drive school buses and or school vehicles in the event of an emergency or district need.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Transportation Manager

- At least one year related experience in public school transportation.
- Knowledge of / prior work experience with routing software preferred
- Deep geographical knowledge of districts and surrounding communities including routes, stops, schools and roadways
- Computer literacy - knowledge of database software; Internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and be able to handle difficult situations professionally and in a non-confrontational manner being firm, fair and consistent
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
- A valid commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement or willingness to obtain one as required by district/area
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and physical exam certifications as required
