Job Description
The City of Avondale is accepting applications for Library Page in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department.
This is a part-time position scheduled to work 19 hours per week.
Shelves and organizes library collection materials; retrieves and checks-in items from book return; tidies and maintains library areas. Provides customer service support at the information desk; assists patrons with locating materials and helps with technology-related questions. Assists with library programs, events, and outreach.
Essential Functions
Gathers library materials to be processed from the book drop, patron use areas, and return stations.
Maintains the organization of the collections. Sorts and prepares materials for shelving; shelves, and shelf-reads and shifts materials as needed. May re-sensitize library materials and check-in materials.
Provides direct public service to customers; answers questions and helps customers with their accounts.
Clears and cleans tables and public seating areas to provide an inviting atmosphere for patrons. Regularly picks up materials left by patrons in public areas.
Assists patrons in the use of copiers, printers, scanning, faxing, and other equipment. Assists patrons in locating specific library materials.
Staffs the customer service desk as assigned. Issues library cards and updates patron accounts. Verifies payments for library fines and resolves fee disputes including credit card transactions. Creates new patron records along with providing information and interpretation concerning library policies and procedures. Provide instruction to library patrons on the use of self-service stations.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma orGEDequivalencyrequired.
Knowledge of books and authors.Previous experience with alphanumericfiling and using the Dewey Decimal System is desirable.
While direct experience is not mandatory for this position, candidateswith previouswork experiencein library services,filing and shelving procedures, and customer service arehighlydesirable.
Bilingual Speaking Skills (Spanish) Preferred.
Supplemental Information
Work requires the ability to read the public library catalog, manuals, Dewey decimal classifications, book reviews, order forms, and computer screens.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Must have good organization skills and be able to file numerically and alphanumerically.
Work requires writing notes on patron's records and describing a problem or concern.
Planning responsibilities include effective time management for daily work assignments.
Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers, or temporary employees.
Within this job, the employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance when necessary. The assignment may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically.
The incumbents in this position contact others within the organization. Must be able to effectively communicate with library patrons as well as staff to provide seamless customer service. Employees must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
