Job Title: Process/Application Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL (Travel-based, Plant-site focused)
Department: Customer Success & Process Optimization
Reports to: COO & Director Sales, Americas
Experience Required: 2-5 years
Education: Bachelors/Masters in Pulp & Paper Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines
Role Overview:
As a Process/Application Engineer, you will be at the forefront of solving complex production challenges across pulp and paper plants. You will directly engage with customer plants, collaborate with on-ground teams, and use our AI/ML platform to drive measurable improvements in areas like bleaching, wet strength, fibre morphology, and more. This is a tech-enabled, field-driven role ideal for engineers who are just as comfortable on the shop floor as they are discussing data insights with CXOs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visit pulp and paper manufacturing sites across the US to understand process pain points and apply Haber’s AI/ML platform to optimize operations.
- Conduct process audits, troubleshoot technical issues, and recommend actionable changes in chemical dosing strategies.
- Collaborate regularly with Product and Data Science teams to translate plant observations into product improvements and data models.
- Work alongside plant operations, quality, and instrumentation teams to integrate Haber’s solutions seamlessly.
- Educate and train plant teams on adopting Haber’s automated process control systems.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor during pre-sales trials and post-sales deployments.
What we’re looking for:
- 2–5 years of on-ground experience in process engineering, production, or instrumentation roles within the pulp & paper or chemical industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Pulp & Paper Technology, Chemical Engineering, or similar.
- Strong understanding of pulp & paper plant processes—especially bleaching, brightness, wet-end chemistry, and fibre treatment is a big plus.
- Exposure to specialty chemical dosing and process automation tools.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively across US plant sites.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with technical Product and Data Science teams to refine and deliver impactful solutions.
- Self-starter mindset with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Bonus: Experience working with or alongside digital/AI-based solutions in manufacturing.
