About the Environmental Associate Project Manager
The Associate Project Manager is an on-the-job training position that develops Project Managers for Waste Management’s Sustainability Services team. The duties and responsibilities, under the direction and supervision of WM leaders, are related to onsite activities at client locations. The Associate PM, through assigned work activities, a training curriculum, and hands-on projects, will develop a working knowledge of all aspects of the day-to-day onsite sustainability operations including, but it not limited to, the storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous/non-hazardous wastes and other related services following federal, state & local regulations. The Associate PM learns to plan and manage the work of onsite personnel, serve as liaison between client and vendors in relation to service issues and contract management, and maintains pre-established standards for safety and environmental issues.
This position is an eight-month training program. After the training program, participant must be willing to relocate anywhere in the lower 48, as there is no way to forecast where a Project Manager role will open.
What You'll Do/Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
- Successfully complete the Associate Project Manager curriculum.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory group training sessions.
- Responsible for the knowledge development and progressive understanding in all aspects of day-to-day management of onsite activities at client locations.
- Learn how to effectively manage site team members.
- Learn how to coordinate logistics for transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from client site including profiling, scheduling, manifesting and physically loading bulk and drum loads.
- Learn to consult with client(s) to identify, design and implement cost saving opportunities and proposals.
- Develop proficiency in ensuring compliance with client and government regulations by learning to performing necessary inspections and reporting.
- Learn how to administer client and vendor financial obligations including invoicing, reporting and contracts.
- Learn to manage profit and loss (budgeting)
- Develop a strong understanding and dedication to the WM Safety Program; Learn to promote a culture of safety among site team members.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This job may have periodic leadership / management responsibilities throughout the program.
What Does it Take to be an Environmental Associate Project Manager/Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Accounting, Business or related field, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.
- Experience: No prior work experience (in addition to education requirement).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability to Pass a respirator FIT test
- Pre-assignment and/or pre-hire customer-specific drug and/or alcohol testing may be required by certain customer-contract requirements. Such testing may include urinalysis, oral swab, drug hair follicle testing and/or alcohol testing.

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the work day;
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects greater than 50 pounds as part of the work day;
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) part of the work day;
- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements part of the work day;
- Normal setting for this job varies depending on the client.
The expected base pay rate for this on-site position is $60,000. This represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 10% bonus.
