City of Norfolk, Department of Public Works is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant for Keep Norfolk Beautiful (KNB). This position plays a vital role in supporting the division's sustainability, beautification, and environmental stewardship initiatives. This position combines administrative coordination, volunteer management, and community outreach to enhance KNB's mission of reducing litter, promoting recycling education, and fostering citywide cleanup efforts.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk's citizens, businesses and visitors, including the City's Storm Water System, Street Network and Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained. Departmental Hiring Salary Range: Â $41,775 - $45,953
The City of Norfolk's Keep Norfolk Beautiful (KNB) Division, part of the Department of Public Works, promotes environmental stewardship through education, outreach, and volunteer cleanup projects. KNB seeks a dedicated Program Assistant passionate about sustainability to support its initiatives and collaborate with Norfolk's Waste Management and Public Works Team.
This role serves as Budget and Fiscal Technician, Office Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, and Community Cleanup Assistant, handling administrative tasks, office management, data entry, customer service, and procurement. The Program Assistant also oversees volunteer coordination and assists with events and outreach efforts focused on litter prevention, recycling education, sustainability, beautification, and cleanup activities across the city.

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

One year of general office work experience. A bachelor's degree or above may substitute work experience (as approved by the department).
Additional Preferred Experience
Customer Service, Education, Event Coordination, Volunteer Management, Social Media Content Development, and Budget Management -Bookkeeping, and Purchasing and Procurement.

Work Hours:Â Â Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm; 40 hours per week every week/Remote Eligible, when aligning with the program needs.Â
Signing Bonus:Â This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.Â
