The Operations Manager is responsible for continued profitable growth of the company while maintaining and building upon the company’s culture. The Operations Manager must understand and embody the Gillman way of treating our team members as our number one priority.
Essential Functions:
- Provide excellent customer service to our team members, customers and vendors
- Play an active role in setting strategic direction for the company
- Responsible for sales, margin, and profit growth
- In conjunction with the Director of Operations, develop and implement processes resulting in sustained growth
- Constructively challenge all processes to deliver best-in-class results
- Identify additional opportunities for operational improvement
- Assist with pricing strategies and price changes using Spruce and other programs as necessary
- Provide leadership and coaching at all levels of company operations, specifically to General Managers
- Ultimately responsible for staffing within the assigned stores.
- Maintain a competent and trained management team
- Assist in creation and implementation of management training programs. Ensure all General Managers understand all necessary reports, procedures, merchandising strategies, and personnel policies
- Assist in onboarding new managers and other key team members
- Work on-site at stores to cover for extended periods of absence for key team members
- Is delegated the authority to hire, dismiss, promote, demote, or discipline key people reporting to this position as well as their employees.
- Perform annual reviews and administer bonus programs
- Responsible for keeping records on coaching and management discussions with people reporting to the position
- Set up and manage completion of work lists for people reporting to this position
- Regularly visit stores and report back with store conditions, merchandising needs, and team member issues. Help resolve issues on-site
- Assist with merchandising and line reviews. Delegate projects to the merchandising team
- Analyze sales performance by sales, margin, turns and GMROI. Eliminate slow movers by working with stores on progressive mark downs. Assist store and merchandising team with new sets. Work with vendors as necessary
- Monitor vendor credits. Work with stores and vendors to ensure credits are received
- Trouble shoot as needed with customer satisfaction issues. Work with customers and vendors to solve problems
- Uphold safety standards and help administer safety training
- Follow all company policies and procedures

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment, as well as in the field at retail locations.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Normal days and hours are Monday through Friday from 7AM to 5PM. Other hours may be necessary depending on store needs.
Travel:
This position will travel to all assigned store locations as needed. Periodic overnight travel will be required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Required: High School Diploma
- Required: A minimum of 10 years of proven leadership results
- Preferred: Business related four year degree
- Preferred: Extensive experience in the building materials / hardware industry
